Are You Annoyed by “Small” Being Called “Tall?”

I took the family to a really nice coffee house this evening. All 4 of them ordered hot chocolate, but I won’t yammer on about wasting a good coffee house experience with simple hot cocoa. It may sound cheesy, but this particular coffee house actually has a drive thru. (I know, that sorta cheapens the place — but it’s one of the nicest coffee houses I’ve visited, so I look at the drive thru as a bonus, not a detraction.)

Anywho, I realize that Venti, Grande, and Tall sound a lot cooler than, Large, Medium, and Small — but come on, who are we fooling? I feel like a real poser when I order a venti coconut soy latte with an extra shot of espresso. (Um, yum…) In fact, 9 times out of 10, I actually order a large. Venti doesn’t look or sound like a real word. It’s like “vent”, but not quite. Ugh…

Owning, or at least running a coffee house is a dream of mine. It’s one of my lifetime goals along with getting a book published, having a cabin in the woods, and owning a refrigerator with an ice dispenser in the door. I love making coffee. I love drinking coffee. I love talking about coffee. If you come over, I’ll happily make you a latte.

On a similar note, Susan had a post regarding a photo contest. The photo above is a cup of cinnamon vanilla latte I made, and *I* actually took the photo too. Maybe next month I’ll enter the contest. 🙂

  1. I actually entered my partner into an online photo contest back in the summer of last year. he made it through to the semi finals but unfortunately didn’t win.

His photo was also taken in a coffeehouse here in Canada.

  2. I actually avoid coffee places because I feel like such an a$$ using their ordering terms. But your coffee looks so good that I’d be happy to visit any coffeehouse you opened. Just be sure not to make the names too fancy! 😉 And yes–enter the photo contest!!

  3. Susan:

I get intimidated, and I’m a coffee nerd! I think maybe if I lived in a suburb, and had a local coffee house (our closest is 30 miles away), I might be more comfortable ordering. As it is now, I usually stand in line practicing my “order monologue” in my head so that I don’t mess it up at the counter.

    I know, I’m sad.

Thanks for the photo encouragement. I will try to remember to submit it next month. (I could have lied and changed the post date of this post to December to submit it this month, but that would have been wrong…)

    Dawn:

Thanks for staying and commenting! I know that most blogexplosion traffic ends up being hit-n-runs, but I’m glad to see that’s not always the case. 🙂

Thank you both for stopping in!

  4. Since my family doesn’t like coffee either, I can make a mean cup of cocoa. 🙂

BTW – Starbucks makes TERRIBLE soy hot chocolate. Its downright nasty!

Thanks for stopping by, Here’s some hot chocolate. Pick your favorite, and consider it a gift. 🙂

  5. Hey I finally put a subscription link on my blog (at the very bottom). It took me days of tweaking so much code, but it’s there now. 😀 By the way, I absolutely love the photo. Very nice close up of the coffee.

  7. I totally agree with Donna on this one not just because they are really cool names but because when I say them I feel really sufisticated it is really fun reading all you blogs and how you get so much joy from the silliest things in life and I wish that more people thought like you and yes you should put the picture in a contest of some sort!!!!!

  8. Hey thanks Chris! That really means a lot to me. For some reason, I think *other* people sound fancy when they say those things, but me, I just feel silly. Oh well, if we have a coffee house, I think Donna will win the fight. 🙂

    Thanks for commenting!
